Maidenhair Fern

(Adiantum aethiopicum)

This gorgeous fern thrives given the right conditions and will reward you with masses of gorgeous green frothy foliage! However they are known to be a little picky, so getting the conditions right is essential.

Placement

Indirect morning or afternoon sun (eg: behind a net curtain). No draughts. Low light makes them weak.

Watering

They like humidity so a humid place such as a well lit bathroom is ideal (or alternatively you can mist it regularly). They like to be kept evenly moist but not soggy. Clay pots aren't great as these dry out too quickly.

Fertiliser

Fertilise it monthly with 1/2 strength ican Fast Food liquid feed.

Potting

You should only repot your Maidenhair when it is root-bound. Preferably repotting in the spring. Use a rich, high quality soil, such as a potting soil amended with 25% compost.

Grooming

Some fronds do dry off, so trim these off at the base. If your whole plant dries off, cut it all back to the base and keep it evenly moist - most will bounce back.
