August Flower Garden  

· Complete pruning roses and spray with Grosafe Copper and Enspray Oil once pruned.

· As new growth appears on your roses spray with Super Shield or Combat for Roses to protect from pests and diseases.

· Plant trees and shrubs now to maximise spring growth.

· Feed trees and shrubs with ican Slow Food towards the end of the month.

· Feed Sasanqua Camellias with Tui Acid Fertiliser and prune if necessary.

· Plant pansies, polyanthus, primulas, stock, hollyhock, carnations, forget-me-not and delphiniums.  Feed with Tui Dried Blood for huge blooms.

· Protect young flowering annuals with Slug Slam.

· Replant containers and baskets with new seasons flowering annuals.

· Apply Tui lawn Fertiliser to stimulate growth.

· Prune spindly growth on hydrangeas back to strong shoots.


August Edible Garden

· Plant out seedlings of broccoli, beetroot, cabbages, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflowers, onions, peas, perpetual spinach, parsnip, radish and silverbeet.

· Dig in green manure crops.

· Set seed potatoes to sprout.

· Feed strawberries with Tui Strawberry Food.

· Fertilise all fruit trees with ican Slow Food.

· Protect young seedlings from slugs and snails with Slug Slam.

· Plant rhubarb plants.  Lift and divide existing rhubarb.

· Spray broad beans, brassicas and other seedlings with Grosafe Copper to control leaf spot and fungal diseases.

· Plant asparagus crowns.

· Spray deciduous fruit trees with Grosafe Copper to protect from pests, diseases and leaf curl.

· Lift and divide perennial herbs such as chives and tarragon at the end of the month.
