Philodendron Selloum Hope

This hardy native of the tropical regions of South America will create an immense tropical feel to any room. Its leaves can grow up to 1.5m long in its native habitat.  As cut foliage leaves can last months in a vase if the water is changed weekly.

Placement

Medium to bright indoor light. Avoid direct sunlight or very low light situations as it tends to grow straggly. It can tolerate very low indoor temperatures. Rotate regularly to allow light to reach all leaves.

Watering

As with most philodendrons, these like to be kept evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 5cm of potting mix to dry out before watering again. Mist regularly or clean leaves in a tepid shower monthly.

Fertiliser

Liquid feed with ican Fast Food monthly from October-March.

Potting

This is a vigorously growing plant that needs repotting yearly or at least bi-annually. Use quality indoor plant mix that allows for good drainage. Remove straggly unwanted leaves from the stem and any dried up leaf husks that can harbour fungus gnats if left.  If it gets too big for the home it can be replanted outside in a frost-free, filtered light situation.
